Chemical Cleaning Technician (Canada)
Job Summary
The Chemical Cleaning Technician supports and executes chemical cleaning activities on industrial piping, vessels, tanks, and process systems. This role involves operating temporary chemical cleaning equipment, handling chemicals safely, and performing cleaning tasks in accordance with approved procedures, permits, and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup, operation, and teardown of chemical cleaning equipment including pumps, heaters, filters, hoses, and tanks.
- Perform chemical cleaning tasks such as flushing, circulation, degreasing, pickling, passivation, rinsing, and preservation as directed.
- Safely handle, mix, inject, and transfer chemical solutions in accordance with procedures and SDS requirements.
- Monitor operating parameters such as flow rates, temperature, pressure, and pH during cleaning operations.
- Collect samples and assist with cleanliness verification and documentation.
- Inspect hoses, fittings, and temporary equipment prior to use and report defects immediately.
- Maintain proper containment, spill control, and housekeeping throughout the job.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members during execution.
- Stop work and report unsafe conditions or deviations from procedures immediately.
Typical Work Scope
- Chemical cleaning of piping systems, vessels, tanks, and heat exchangers
- Alkaline degreasing, acid cleaning, pickling, and passivation
- System flushing, filtration, drying, and preservation
- Support of turnarounds, shutdowns, and new construction projects
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
- Comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Wear required PPE including chemical resistant clothing, gloves, eye and face protection, and respiratory protection as required.
- Participate in toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and safety meetings.
- Follow confined space, lockout/tagout, and permit‑to‑work requirements when applicable.
- Respond appropriately to spills, leaks, and emergency situations.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Previous industrial or chemical cleaning experience preferred.
- Ability to understand and follow written procedures and supervisor instructions.
- Physically capable of performing manual work in industrial environments.
- Strong awareness of chemical hazards and safe work practices.
Preferred Training and Certifications
- Chemical Cleaning or Industrial Cleaning training
- Confined Space Entry (Entrant level)
- H2S Alive or equivalent
- First Aid / CPR
- WHMIS or equivalent chemical handling training
Work Environment and Conditions
This position involves working in industrial facilities, construction sites, and turnaround environments. The Chemical Cleaning Technician must be able to work extended hours, perform physically demanding tasks, and wear PPE for extended periods.
